Welcome to the June edition of our new blog. We hope everyone is doing well and remaining healthy. Some of us have been able to work from home during the confinement, and for those of us who are not used to it… it has been an adjustment. The good, the bad, and the in-between! Some of our clients love it, and some are eager to return to the office. No doubt it has been challenging to juggle work, house maintenance, grocery shopping, and more, and then, many parents also had to become teachers overnight. We have the utmost respect for you!

Working from home has its benefits (no need to dress up, no need for make-up, no driving, and being stuck in traffic or behind that slow car traveling in the left lane!) but it also forces us to look at our home in a different light. Yes, even for those of us in the field! What we are seeing a lot of recently, is the need for kitchen remodel. How many of you have looked at your kitchen for the past 8 weeks thinking: “I need to do something with this kitchen but I don’t know where to begin?” Your kitchen may not be “horrible”, but it may simply be outdated. Let’s face it: kids grow up, people mature, and our tastes change. That is normal.

You have heard it many times: the kitchen is the heart and soul of the home. After all, it is where we share meals, cooking experiences, laughter, tears, a cup of coffee or an adult beverage. Whatever it may be, the kitchen is where we spend most of our time, which means it is a great investment in a home’s value. And because it is an investment, it takes planning and expertise, which we, at Designing Dreams, are proud to give our clients. We help you plan and we offer expertise. It is that simple.

So, let’s start with the planning! This post will likely be part one of a series because kitchens require a lot of thought because, in the end, they have to work for you. A good way to start is to record your own needs and desires. This will help our designers to help you better.

Some key considerations might be: What is your household size? What are your cooking habits? Eating habits? Lifestyle? How do you function in your kitchen? Do you have enough storage? Do you have a pantry? If not, would you like one? You’d be surprised at some of the pantries we have created! Do you want to keep an eating nook or do you prefer an island/peninsula that doubles as a kitchen table?

Aesthetically speaking: What do you like and dislike about your current kitchen? Are your appliances, let’s say… tired? Are you attracted to light-colored cabinets, wood cabinets, or even dark cabinets? Are you tired of white shaker cabinets or do you just love them and have to have them? How about countertops? Do you like a plain look or a patterned look? These are just a few questions to help you get started.

So, go ahead! Make a list of what you DESIRE in the new kitchen, what you HAVE to have, and what you would LIKE but do not have to have.

All you have to do now is give us a call and leave the rest up to us!
