We are all still trying to make sense of what is going on these days and we admit that most of us are ready to move on and get back to some sense of normalcy. This week, we sat down with one of our designers, Melinda Araj, who has been with Designing Dreams for quite some time. We thought it would be fun for you to “meet” her, if you have not met her yet. Here is a recap of our interview with Melinda. Enjoy!
Who is Melinda Araj?
I am, most of all, a mother of three wonderful girls. Two of my daughters are graduates of Vista Del Lago High School and one is at Folsom Middle School.
As long as I can remember, I have always loved crafting and creating. I get this from my dad who was quite the inventor of unique things! He would take scraps and turn them into treasures before it was popular. We had a wagon wheel clock hanging lamp made from a wire fishing cage and an actual bee hive that was partially inside, partially outside our home. I always thought it was so cool and unique!
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Hartford, Alabama. I am the youngest of five, so I have always been “the baby”. I lived in the same home for 22 years (my mom still lives there). Though I love my home state, life brought me to California by chance about 18 years ago. Back then, I just knew I was going to be in California for 5 years… Little did I know, I still here and still love it!
How did you get into this field?
I have always liked design, so I feel this was a natural progression for me once I decided to work outside the home again after being a stay-at-home mom for 15 years. The truth is, I am not ashamed to say I love spending time looking at model homes, Pinterest, and Instagram for new and fun ideas. I especially look for inspiration in regards to kitchens and bathrooms as trends change so rapidly.
What do you like best about your job?
I like that each project is unique. I also enjoy meeting people and working with each person’s individual style.
What should clients know before they work with Designing Dreams Flooring and Remodeling?
The fact that we are a “vertical” company is appealing to our clients. We handle each project from beginning to end, we advise them on design and products, and oversee the project every step of the way, from beginning through completion. This makes us different from other flooring stores and remodeling company. Working for a remodeling company has helped me learn a lot about construction, plumbing and electrical to say the least. I am still fascinated by it all and am still learning every day.
Who are your favorite clients?
I am truly blessed with wonderful clients but, if I had to choose, I would say I especially enjoy those who are creative, daring and have a unique style. I enjoy guiding my clients in the selection of wood, vinyl planks, tile, countertops, backsplash, basically anything dealing with the remodeling process, but I also really have fun with the accessorizing or “staging” of my clients’ homes when needed.
What do you want your clients to know about you?
I want them to know that I am truly interested in their projects, no matter the size of the remodel. From a simple flooring update, may it be hardwood, tile, luxury vinyl planks, to a full blown remodel, I take pride in our customer service at Designing Dreams. We have .great project managers and incredible installers.
